We’ve had a handful of clients call us who use Authorize.net for in house credit card transactions. They reported the Hard Error Line 343. We contacted Authorize.net about it and they sent us links that your IT personnel will need to follow to eliminate SSLv3 from your operating system. This is not a Wintix or Webtix issue.
Authorize.net sent a letter to all of our customers that use their services on Oct. 28, 2014. Read the letter.
Here are the links received from Authorize.net on how to correct the Hard Error, Line 343 issues:
Disabling SSL v3 in IE and in Windows: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/security/3009008.aspx and then restart the computer. When you click on the above link, scroll down until you get to Suggested Actions, subcategory Apply Workarounds. Go to the third bullet “Disable SSL 3.0 in Windows for server software.”
These instructions are from Microsoft. They can be trusted. Best of all, it fixes the problem.
Since this is something that has to be corrected within your operating system’s registry, you will need to have someone onsite familiar with Microsoft’s registry do the work.
NOTE: Some of our clients have also had success by removing and replacing their anti-virus software. For instance, one of them removed Avast and installed AVG as their anti-virus software instead. (We do not endorse one anti-virus software over another.)
When you get done with that, you should also remove the SSL v3 support from your browsers:
- To remove from Firefox: https://www.digicert.com/ssl-support/disabling-browser-support-ssl-v3.htm#mozilla_firefox
- To remove from Chrome: https://www.digicert.com/ssl-support/disabling-browser-support-ssl-v3.htm#google_chrome
- To remove from IE: https://www.digicert.com/ssl-support/disabling-browser-support-ssl-v3.htm#internet_explorer
