Please make sure you have Android OS version 13 on your Zebra TC 21 scanner
Scantix will run on iOS or Android. Scantix will work with any smartphone. Even so, most users of Scantix eventually use Scantix on a Zebra mobile computer. The Zebra has several advantages:
- It’s fast. It was designed with scanning in mind
- It has its own light and works well in dim lighting
- It reads both tickets and emailed receipts on customer’s phones
- The pistol grip is easy to hold
- Best of all, the scanner points forward – in the same direction as customers present their tickets
Things are fine until people try to update Scantix. Then, they get a message that the update will not install until Android gets updated. Here’s how to do it:
- Download: https://techdocs.zebra.com/lifeguard/a13/
- This is a healthy 1.6 GB download. It will probably take you 15 minutes to download
- Connect a USB-c cable to your computer and to the bottom of the TC21.
- Click the Settings icon.
- Search settings for USB preferences
- Select USB used for File Transfer
- When the update is complete, go to Windows Explorer. You will see TC21 as one of the subdirectories. When you click that, you will see about a dozen subdirectories. If you only see two subdirectories, you do not have the USB cable connected properly.
- Drag the download to the TC21 subdirectory.
- Contact Zebra tech support for the bar code. Use the scanner on the TC21 to scan the bar code.
- The TC21 will take over. An update to Android will be installed. This will take about 20 minutes. Setting it up will take another 15 minutes. If you want to set up your login to Google, you will also need your Google login and password.
Now you can install the latest Scantix.
